Gressholmen Kro
PARTNERSHIP RESTAURANT
Gressholmen Kro is a summer seasonal restaurant (typically May-August), and the only restaurant in the Oslo fjords open to the public 7 days a week. In peak times, you can reach Gressholmen island by ferry within 11 minutes from Aker Brygge.
In 2017, Oslo Kommune put the historic Kro out for applicants. After an arduous process and interview with 70 hopeful applicants, the City selected Anne Marte Archer, Brian Dahl Weir, and The Core as the new owners. For the first time, new water pipes were also laid down to give running water to the island, and new toilets planned for delivery in 2021.
Since then, Gressholmen Kro has strived to be a paradise get-away from the City; a place welcoming people and families of all ages. During the daytime, the Kro serves sandwiches, coffee and ice cream, and runs a small boutique with organic drinks and products. Later in the day, the restaurant serves classic Kro food (shrimps, mussels) as well as salads, vegetarian/vegan food, and daily specials.
The Kro has also been a popular destination for weddings, company events, confirmations and concerts. The ambition of the Kro is to also promote culture and the arts. A yearly gallery-showing curates critically acclaimed up-and-coming artists. The Kro also offers free concerts in summer; and has been graced by a range of musicians including: Hilma Nikolaisen, Ole & Silje Huleboer, Maria Solheim, Darling West, Torgeir Waldemar, Louien, Marte Wulff, Einar Stenseng, Robert Moses, Malin Pettersen, and Kari Svendsen.
